Thousands lost power in Central Jersey

A power outage in Howell, Jackson and Lakewood left thousands of homes and businesses in the area earlier Saturday, officials said.
Chris Hoenig, senior communications representative for JCP&L, said there was trip in one of their substations that affected about 13,000 customers starting at around 12:40 p.m.
Almost all power has been restored just before 3 p.m. with the exception of one circuit that the company is currently working on, Hoenig said.
“Crews from JCPL are on their way to address the issue,” Howell police said in a social media post. “Several intersections on Rt 9 are detoured at this time.”
Some locals received a call from JCP&L saying that power wouldn’t be restored until 11:30 p.m., which Hoenig says was made in error. “We’re going to investigate how that ended up going out, but 11:30 was never the time,” Hoenig said.
